Along with\nbasic care and maintenance on your part, these tips can help your implant last\na lifetime! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Dental Implant Emergencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some of the signs you might notice in an implant\nemergency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Severe pain in the area<\/li><li>Your implant becomes loose <\/li><li>You have swollen or bleeding gum tissue around\nyour implant<\/li><li>Chewing or biting down becomes painful<\/li><li>The gums have receded or pulled back&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can Implant Emergencies Be Treated?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice any of the symptoms listed above, it\u2019s a good\nidea to call a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonvilledentalspecialists.com\/dental-implants.html\">team\nof specialists.<\/a> Depending on the situation, they may recommend treatment\nsuch as gum therapy, repairing the restoration attached to an implant (e.g.\ndental crown, bridge, etc), or a bone graft in the area. If it\u2019s caught early\nenough, a \u201cdental implant salvage\u201d can often be done to save the implant and prevent\nfailure altogether. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Can You Prevent Implant Problems?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some great ways to keep your implants healthy: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Choose an experienced implant professional <\/strong> \u2013 It\u2019s relatively rare, but sometimes a dentist makes an error that leads to failure. Ideally, you can see a specialist such as a periodontist or prosthodontist to make sure they have advanced training in implant dentistry.<\/li><li><strong>Quit Smoking<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 The success of an implant depends on how well it heals and integrates with the surrounding bone after it\u2019s placed in the jaw. Smokers don\u2019t heal as well as non-smokers, so they have a lower success rate of about 85%.<\/li><li><strong>Maintain healthy gums \u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Just as the pockets of gum tissue around natural teeth can collect bacteria and become infected, the tissue around implants can also become infected if it isn\u2019t kept clean. That\u2019s why it\u2019s crucial to brush the area gently but thoroughly at least twice a day and floss at least once (oral irrigators are also helpful). <\/li><li><strong>Get regular dental care <\/strong>\u2013 Regular visits allow a dentist to closely monitor your implant and catch any potential problems early. <\/li><li><strong>Wear a nightguard if necessary \u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Many people clench and grind at night, which puts force on an implant that can cause it to become loose.
